Terroni: Table for One, Please

There is a restaurant, in the heart of downtown L.A. that I love to go to when I am feeling especially in need of some alone time. It is on the corner of 8th and Spring street, a place where the Historic Core and Fashion District come in contact with one another. Just a stones throw from Gallery Row where the buildings are still old brick structures, with trees aligning the cracked pavement, and patrons lean into one another over artisanal beers; among this backdrop stands Terroni, which prides itself on serving delicious traditional, rustic, Italian cuisine. The first time I ever ate here was on a date around this time last year with a young man whose interest surprised me. It was ultimately fruitless, as we both went our separate ways over time – but that’s another story. He suggested the place and the time, and we met one cool evening for dinner. I was pleasantly surprised because, for all my wanderings, this was a place I had not yet discovered, and I …

Happy Birthday: Darling Afflatus turns 1 year old

Happy Birthday to you, Darling Afflatus! I’ll keep this brief. As I am sure you have figured out, today is the 1 year anniversary of launching this blog. I am rather proud of this milestone, because that means I have consistently written on one platform for 12 months, which was a personal goal I set for myself. I can say with confidence that I have published at least one article for these past 12 months, and I plan on keeping up this standard and surpassing it. Darling Afflatus has gone threw some visual changes, and has evolved in its looks – with a long way still yet to go. The intention is to continue to improve its appearance, until it reflects the mood and level of professionalism I am hoping to convey. I also hope to improve my writing while still maintaining my personality. Furthermore, the purpose for which I began this blog, has now come and it is time to realize it. I am full of excitement and nervousness, and when I get the …

OOTD #50/316: 50s Movie Inspired

I know! Two “Outfit of the Day” posts back to back. I am a little surprised. However, it makes sense, with this unseasonably warm February weather, one would be hard pressed not to pull out some of their best and favorite pieces. So lately, I have been binge watching 50s classic movies on the Turner Classic Movie channel (TCM), Netflix, and from my own personal collection. In particular, the colorful musicals the era is known for such as “An American in Paris” and “The Bandwagon” – featuring Fred Astaire (one of my favorite stars of the period). Not to mention romantic-comedies like “Designing Woman” and “How to Marry a Millionaire.” And that’s not even including my collection of Audrey Hepburn movies! This, however, is nothing new to me. For those who know me personally, they are well aware that this is a regular pastime for my free time.

OOTD #44/322: Coming Full Circle-Skirt

Hello my darlings. I know its been awhile since my last outfit of the day post, and it is kind of ironic that it comes nearly a month after the first one, but these types of posts are not planned. They are done on the fly, when I am feeling especially good about what I am wearing on that day. Today was one of those days for a very particular reason, that being, I came across the designer for the skirt I happen to be wearing! Actually, if I want to be technical, she found me! I happened to be in Old Town Pasadena on this unseasonably warm weekend. With Valentine’s day being tomorrow, and me being as single as a girl can be, my mother, sister, god-mother, and I decided to celebrate ourselves by enjoying an ultra-girly, afternoon tea party at the Tea Rose Garden. A detailed blog post on this outing will be coming within the next few days, but I will say that if you are ever in need of a reason …

You’re Invited: Red Carpet 2016 Style Concepts

I am very excited about this post because this is the first request I have received since launching Darling Afflatus almost a year ago! It’s an honor to know that some people out there like my writing enough to want me to write for them. In this case, The Black Tux, a company that provides an alternative to the traditional way men shop for formal events has asked that I share some of my favorites from their collection. To add to the fun, with the Oscars just around the corner (February 28th), I have been asked to use this event as the theme, and to share what I myself would love to wear alongside the handsome men in these suits. Because let’s face it, what’s a well-dressed man without a stunning woman on his arm? So, without further ado, let the red-carpet dreams begin. Now, while women’s fashion tends to be my focus and where I feel strongest, I do follow menswear and trends as well. To get a feel for my favorite looks for …
